ABOUT THE ARTIST

Biography

Barry Dominick is a Dallas-based oil painter specializing in impressionistic realism.  Born in 1964 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Barry grew up in rural northwest Louisiana, where he was deeply inspired by the region's pastoral scenes. The distinct southern landscape, characterized by towering pine trees, winding rivers, and quiet bayous, established a lifelong visual language that continues to influence his artistic vision today.

Largely self-taught, Barry has developed his technical skill and artistic voice through dedicated practice and the intensive study of historical masters. His work draws inspiration from a diverse group of artistic influences, including the atmospheric landscape mastery of Edgar Payne, the bold color and thick application of Wayne Thiebaud, the expressive brushwork of Vincent van Gogh, and the deep emotional resonance of Frida Kahlo.

After a successful forty-year career in the financial services industry, Barry retired in 2024 to dedicate himself fully to his passion for visual art. His paintings—primarily landscapes, cityscapes, and still lifes—are characterized by a keen focus on light, atmosphere, and the subtle complexities of the natural world.

Barry’s creative process is split between the field and the studio. An avid plein air painter, he frequently travels to capture the immediate, fleeting qualities of light and weather directly from life. These direct observations inform the larger, more refined works he executes in his dedicated home studio in Dallas.

A member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the American Impressionist Society (AIS), Barry holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington. His work has been featured in regional exhibitions and competitions across the country, and his paintings reside in numerous private collections.
